James Frey

I was so excited while grocey shopping this week to come across a new novel by James Frey...Bright Shiny Morning. You may have heard of him before. He received a bit of notierity as an Oprah book club choice for his memoir A Million Little Pieces. Oprah pretty much tore him a new one for embellishing (or lying as she called it) his memoir. Now, I must admit I'm one of the people that DVR the Oprah show. I'm usually a fan of hers but I thought she overreacted a bit with James Frey and humiliated him in front of world. Way to kick a man down just after recovering from addiction. You can read about the saga here. I personally felt kinda bad for the guy. Of course his memoir was going to be skewed, he was a complete drug addict and I'm sure he has no idea for himself what was truth versus ficture during that time. Regardless, it was a phenomenal book and an even better sequel...My Friend Leonard. I read online that he was turned down by 17 publishers with his new novel as a result of the Oprah incident. I had to laugh because the first page of his novel reads..."Nothing in this book should be considered accurate or reliable."
