{Helena} March Mini | Long Beach, CA Child Photographer

If you are a mom, you know that no matter what amount of preparation you may have for a photo shoot...it will most likely not end in your favor. Right? Children are their own person with their own feelings, emotions, & attitude. They are not puppets. And "cheese" and "goo goo gaa gaa" mean nothing to them. They are seriously looking back at us wondering "what the hell is wrong with you people?" as we try to entertain & excite them in front of the camera. Helena was such a reminder of that.

I always say that the things that frustrate me most about Brooklyn, are the things that will serve her well in life. I kinda like Helena girl and her confidence in who she is. She was not having my antics...but I gotta tell ya...I love these images...because they are HER! This strong, independent, little girl...at the ripe age of 18 months. I know as moms & photographers we want the PERFECT image of our sparkling little girl. But really...don't we really just want to capture our kids as they are? Their stubborn personalities? Their snooty noses? And this crazy stance of 'this is who I am'. We need to embrace that more...and let them be who they are. I know Helena is a happy smiley girl but she had no interest in performing for the camera...and that is more than okay, it's awesome. Because she is kinda bad ass...
